Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Grove is an iOS application developed and operated by Grove ("we," "us," or "our"), reachable at hello@withgrove.co. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with the Grove app and the withgrove.co website.

2. The Grove app — minimal data collection

Grove is designed to operate entirely on-device. Specifically:

• No account required. Grove does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or verify your identity.
• No cloud storage. Your profile, connections, Stash items, and relationship timelines are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your phone unless you choose to share it directly with another Grove user during a proximity exchange.
• No servers. Grove has no backend servers. There is no Grove database containing your information.
• No advertising or tracking. Grove does not use advertising identifiers or tracking technologies of any kind.
• Anonymous analytics. Grove uses TelemetryDeck to collect anonymous, aggregate usage data — for example, how many tap exchanges are completed per day. TelemetryDeck cannot identify individual users, does not use device fingerprinting, and collects no personal information. See Section 4 for details.
• Proximity exchanges are direct and offline. When you tap phones with another Grove user, profile data is exchanged directly between devices using Apple's Multipeer Connectivity framework (Bluetooth and peer-to-peer WiFi). This data does not pass through any Grove servers.

3. Information you share with other users

When you create a Grove profile, you choose what to include: your name, photo, bio, and hobby tags. When you tap phones with another Grove user, this profile information is shared directly with that person's device.

You control what you share. Grove will never share your profile with anyone you haven't explicitly tapped with.

Stash items: photos, notes, and links you save for specific people are delivered to the recipient's device during a proximity tap exchange. Once delivered, these items exist only on the recipient's device. Grove has no copy of them.

4. Anonymous analytics (TelemetryDeck)

Grove uses TelemetryDeck to collect anonymous, aggregate usage analytics. This helps us understand how the app is being used so we can improve it.

TelemetryDeck is designed from the ground up to be privacy-preserving:

• No personal information is collected. Events are anonymous counts — for example, "a tap exchange was completed" — with no name, email, or identifier attached.
• No device fingerprinting. TelemetryDeck does not build profiles of individual devices.
• Cannot identify you. The data collected cannot be traced back to any individual user.
• No advertising use. Analytics data is used solely to improve Grove and is never used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Examples of events we track: tap exchanges completed, stash items created, reactions sent, onboarding completed. We do not track the content of any messages, photos, or links.

5. The withgrove.co website

The Grove website at withgrove.co collects limited information:

• Waitlist email addresses. If you submit your email address to join the Grove waitlist, that address is stored by our form processor (Formspree) and used solely to notify you when Grove launches on the App Store. We will not send marketing emails or share your address with third parties. You can request removal at any time by emailing hello@withgrove.co.
• Website analytics. We may use privacy-respecting analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) to understand how many people visit the site. This does not involve cookies or personal identification.

6. Apple platform data

Grove is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect certain information in connection with your download and use of Grove in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy. Grove has no access to or control over information Apple collects.

Grove requests the following device permissions:

• Bluetooth and Local Network. Required for Multipeer Connectivity to discover nearby Grove users and exchange profiles. Grove does not use Bluetooth for any other purpose.
• Photo Library. Required only if you choose to add a profile photo or stash a photo for a friend. Grove does not access your photo library without your explicit action.

7. Data retention and deletion

Since Grove stores all data locally on your device, you are in full control of deletion:

• To delete all Grove data, delete the app from your device. All associated data is removed by iOS automatically.
• To delete your waitlist email, email us at hello@withgrove.co and we will remove it within 7 days.
• Anonymous analytics data collected via TelemetryDeck cannot be deleted because it is not linked to you in any way — there is no record associated with your identity to remove.

8. Children's privacy

Grove is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information through the waitlist, please contact us at hello@withgrove.co and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify waitlist subscribers by email. Your continued use of Grove after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
