Common questions

How does Grove work without the internet?

Grove uses your iPhone's Bluetooth and local Wi-Fi radio via Apple's Multipeer Connectivity framework — the same technology that powers AirDrop. Your device advertises a signal and listens for nearby Grove users simultaneously. When two phones come close, they exchange profiles directly, device to device, with no server involved.

Nothing leaves your phone to any cloud. Your entire social graph lives in local storage on your device.

Why does Grove need Bluetooth and Local Network access?

Bluetooth is used to discover nearby devices. Local Network permission allows the actual profile exchange once two phones connect. Grove needs both to complete a tap — neither is used for any tracking or background data collection.

If you accidentally denied either permission, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth (or Local Network) and re-enable Grove there.

Grove isn't finding anyone nearby — what should I check?

1. Confirm both phones have Bluetooth and Local Network access enabled for Grove in Settings → Privacy.

2. Both people need the Tap tab open and the app in the foreground. Grove only actively scans when the Tap screen is visible.

3. Try keeping phones about 1–2 metres apart. Very close proximity can occasionally cause Bluetooth signal issues.

4. If nothing happens after 15 seconds, close and reopen the Tap tab on both phones.

A Stash item didn't deliver — what happened?

Stash items deliver during a tap exchange — they're bundled with your profile and sent the next time you tap the person you saved them for. Both phones need to complete the full exchange without navigating away for delivery to register.

If a tap completed but an item still shows as pending, tap again. Grove's delivery protocol ensures items that already delivered won't be sent twice, so a second tap is always safe.

How do I delete my data?

Because Grove stores everything locally on your device, deleting the app removes all your data permanently — connections, profile, Stash, everything. There is no account to close and no server-side data to request removal of.

If you'd like help resetting without deleting the app entirely, email support@withgrove.co.

Can I use Grove on Android?

Grove is iOS only right now. An Android version depends on how things go after launch. If it matters to you, let us know — it helps us prioritise.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@withgrove.co with a brief description of what you were doing, what you expected, and what actually happened. Your iOS version and iPhone model are helpful. Screenshots or screen recordings are always welcome.

If you're on the TestFlight beta, you can also submit feedback directly through the TestFlight app using the shake gesture or screenshot annotation.
